Last Friday night, Valentine's Day Eve, Matt and I decided to see "Coraline" at the Regal Cinemas at Shoppingtown Mall in DeWitt. Even though it wasn't in 3D and I was soooo much more excited to see it than he was....it was everything I expected it to be!
It was sooo good! I could definitely notice some almost Tim Burton references [edit: I am aware that Tim Burton DID NOT produce this, that is why I put "almost" tim burton references], or maybe the graphic novel creators were inspired him as well. I suppose I should read the graphic novel to better appreciate the movie and the story behind it all.
It was animated exceptionally well, and to top it off (which I noticed right off the bat!) one of my favorite bands, They Might Be Giants, did a small song in the movie as well! They have such a distinct voice and iconic sound, that they added a playful charm to the dark grim fairytale story.

JFYI...Tim Burton had absolutely nothing to do with this film. Henry Selick was the directer of Coraline -- Nightmare Before Christmas too. Burton only concieved the original idea for and took producer credit for Nightmare. The stop-motion is all from Selick's Portland, OR workshop.
Also, Coraline is based on a children's novel, not a graphic novel. It's quite good, by Neil Gaiman, and you should definitely check it out. It's a bit different, but I liked the translation to film.
But yes, the movie was excellent, as was the cameo by They Might Be Giants, which hasn't left my head since I saw it a week ago.
Sorry to rant at you, it's just that a lot of people have gotten this idea and it kinda irks me.
Thanks for the correction. I knew it wasn't a Tim Burton film, but could see the inspiration and similar styles throughout the film.
And I always though it was a graphic novel because I always saw the book on display at a local comic book shop I would go to purchase manga. I guess I was under the wrong impression about that.
JFYI... Coraline is a fantasy/horror novella. Not really aimed at children, nor is it long enough to be considered a novel. And it was made into a graphic novel in 2008.

Also, I'd just like to take the time and mention that Tim Burton is a total fucking tool who doesn't even bother casting different people in his movies anymore. He is about as gifted as my flaccid cock, and might I say about as good looking.
I want to see Coraline so bad! It looks amazing Miss Caroline! <3
