movie: coraline

current tune: "Love & Destroy" by: Franz Ferdinand

Last Friday night, Valentine's Day Eve, Matt and I decided to see "Coraline" at the Regal Cinemas at Shoppingtown Mall in DeWitt. Even though it wasn't in 3D and I was soooo much more excited to see it than he was....it was everything I expected it to be!

It was sooo good! I could definitely notice some almost Tim Burton references [edit: I am aware that Tim Burton DID NOT produce this, that is why I put "almost" tim burton references], or maybe the graphic novel creators were inspired him as well. I suppose I should read the graphic novel to better appreciate the movie and the story behind it all.

It was animated exceptionally well, and to top it off (which I noticed right off the bat!) one of my favorite bands, They Might Be Giants, did a small song in the movie as well! They have such a distinct voice and iconic sound, that they added a playful charm to the dark grim fairytale story.

John Flansburgh and John Linnell are wonderful!

check them out here: They Might Be Giants

Here is their song in "Coraline."

And here is the trailer:

couch surfing

current tune: "We Are All Made Of Stars" by: Moby

(This is one of my favorite music videos)

After having a wretched day of questioning my future and the future I will have attending Cazenovia College, I took a spontaneous road trip out to Erie Blvd. DeWitt, NY to the coveted Taco Bell with my very good friend Kari.

Bean Burritos and cheesy fiesta potatoes put me in a good mood after crying between life, situations, and the un-inspired feeling I've been experiencing for months. As an artist, espeically an exceptionally busy college student one, inspiration is a must, and without it I feel like dead inside. A zombie basically has more life than what I've been feeling lately. My mom will be coming up tomorrow from my hometown to spend the day with me for some good bonding. I feel like I've been all over the place, and just utterly crazy, so I hope this will all help.

On the way back from Taco Bell Kari I stumbled on a comfy chair on the side of the road. I had to do some manuerving in my merc to get back to where it was, but we managed to get it into the trunk of my car. So while driving back to Cazenovia with my four ways on, and going slwoly we made it. After Kari and I struggled to get it up to Hubbard and up the stairs and into my room without any help from any male figure, might I add!

The little treasure sitting precariousily in the back of my trunk.
Kari and I had to jiggle it in, take it back out, and repeat a couple of times before we got it in the best we could.
Plus with the assistance of my only tiny bungee cord.

Before we got it up Hubbard stairs.

...And into my room! yay!

I'm so happy to have this latest edition to my room of random oddites and vintage-garage sale love.

tea for two

current tune: "Visions of Johana" by: Bob Dylan

This weekend was Valentine's Day and it turned out to be a nice relaxing weekend. Matt came up from Albany to see me!

We had sushi at a new sushi bar in Fayetteville, NY called "Sakana-Ya Sushi Bar." I had some delish age tofu and veggie sushi rolls wile Matt tried some squid for the first time and had sushi as well. From there we decided to see Coraline. I will be posting on that in a separate post, but just to say....I loved it!

Saturday we headed into Syracuse and stumbled on a very cute, very intimate tea room in the middle of Syracuse, NY called "Roji Tea Lounge." I had some scrumptuous lychee bubble tea, and Matt tried some hot lemongrass tea. Both of wish were superb! We loved the fact that we had the option of sitting at the traditional tea tables!

My bubble tea was soooo yummy! I love the "bubbles" at the bottom!

Matt enjoyed his hot tea. I enjoyed his little tea cup.

We had little mats for our shoes! I liked the fact that we could enjoy our tea in a more traditional manner, in the middle of Syracuse, and just enjoy the moment and our tea.

I would recommend this tea lounge to anyone, and already have told my friends about it. I loved every minute about it! Not to mention I bumped into, and met, one of my good friend's cousins, but also because the tea and staff were both wonderful!

Matt and I both had a good time, and bubble tea always makes me happy!

p.s. - my nice Canon digital camera decided to crap the bed....again....so I haven't updated in awhile because of the lack of camera and digital image-posting abilities. I'll be looking into locating a cheap point-and-shoot, and getting my baby fixed.

In the meantime I'll be looking to get by by burrowing cameras with my mem. card and trying to
still post!

a random way to begin the month

current tune: "Bluish" by: Animal Collective

It has been awhile. As disappointing as it sounds, because everything sounds more dramatic when spoken openly instead of contained within the inner casings of the human mind, I have not been up to anything worth blogging lately. Oh poo.....

I've been trying to get into the swing of a new class schedule, work (again), and my new internship which I'm working on getting started asap! Some little help that is getting me by are: my petite vintage coffee maker from my late grandfather, veggie "bunny" wraps, cheese sandwiches, and stumble.

maybe not as appetizing to some, but it satisfies me, with a side of ranch!

Some good news today, when I was getting ready to journey back to Caz, I stopped over to see my grandparents and was given hand-me-downs from my uncle! My grandmother has inevitably been going through her attic or a forgotten closet and came across these sweet old sweaters my uncle Matt used to wear and love. I'm very excited to wear these cool man sweaters and pair them with some colored tights or leggings.

Speaking of which, if you ever have the urge to wear funky digs and have nothing to add to the flair, or just want to spice up a piece, try one of my little secrets for colored tights! We Love Colors is a straightforward website and is wonderful for finding that specific color tight you've been rummaging for in the racks at H&M, and coming out empty handed. I love this site, and shipping was painless!

Going on with the scatter-ness of this entry I recently stumbled upon this adorable link. For all those who have a love for pugs, or just silly little creatures in general, this will put a smile on your face.

enjoy!
